Hi All:

Is there a way to block [:fail:] all email to a particular account unless it is on a whitelist, and then forward the clean mail to another account?

Let me explain what I am trying to do - - I want to create an address for my domain registrations, ([email protected]) and then set up a filter that only accepts mail that originates from my registrar (*@registrar.com) to dump all of the spam that originates from whois results. Then, I want to forward the mail to my main account.

I may also want to do this for forum registrations, etc.

Thinking about it, this may be a nice feature to offer customers - the ability to create an email address that can be used in spam-prone applications (like forum registrations) that only allows mail from white listed domains. All the user would have to do is add the domain to the whitelist whenever they register for a new account somewhere.

Anyhow, any help would be appreciated.

"Set Catch-All e-mail" to "Fail: The sender is notified that the address doesn't exist" in "Email » Set Catch All"

Thanks young, but I know how to do that, but it won't accomplish what I want, it will fail ALL mail. I want it to check a whitelist first.

oh sorry, i thought you wanted to block email addresses.

Blocking your whois email address so it fails when anyone writes to it is a sure way to get your domain cancelled when someone with a legitimate reason complains that they tried to reach you using your email address and it didn't work.

Better to buy a "private" domain registration and let a domain registrar with good spam/virus filters look at the email first and then forward it on to you.

Or do some good spam/virus blocking yourself.

Among companies offering private domain registrations:

Network Solutions
GoDaddy
us

Versign does not belong in that list. That's Network Solutions and it's common knowledge that they sell off your info. I believe its even in their fine print that they allow themselves to do so.

GoDaddy is a rather poor choice as well. If a domain of yours is joe-jobbed with spam, they'll pull the domain and make you pay a fee to get it back. We had someone fighting with them while I was with EV(il)1.

Okay, I've edited my post so it now says "Network Solutions" instead of Verisign.

I guess I've been on the 'net long enough to remember that when Verisign first bought Network Solutions they used the name Verisign for domain registrations...

and old enough to have forgotten they've switched back to Network Solutions (some folk would say they did it after they'd trashed the name Verisign, but I wouldn't :D ).

I listed two others besides myself, and I listed myself last, because I didn't want to be seen as just advertising myself.

I listed those two because I know they offer it.

Do you know any more who do?

If so, feel free to list them.

Even if one of them is you.

:)

Actually I just use Enom myself but have domains with 7 different registers. Enom pulled some nasty stuff on us a few months back and they are shortly going away. *shrug* Not sure where we're going to but I do know that having 7 different registars in a pain in the butt.

I did notice one thing though. They more money they charge for a domain, the worse customer service you get from them. :)
