Can we use IP address in the mailserver configuration

I tried to search but not able to find anyting related to this,
maybe it was asked before.
But I would like to find out, say if we are using email client to access email from DA

on the email client server of imap and smtp
can we use ip address instead of mail.mydomain,com

are there any advantage or disadvantage using IP address instead of full email url

because I am using avast AV
and whenever I am on my VPN
it will give error like

concurrent connection limit in avast! exceeded(pass:0, processes​

But if i am not on VPN, that issue goes away. I read somewhere you might need to use IP address in the email client configuration.

Maybe, not sure, but I wouldn't even think of that unless you want to run into issues that mail gets into spam boxes a lot.
It's not professional either.

If Avast is giving you that issue, you should do something about avast, and not change anything which is working according to RFC's.
Make some exclusion in AV, or use another AV maybe? Or ask at the Avast forums, because it's a problem of them.

Yeah I was thinking to search for another AV
Since I am only using a free version

Do you have any recommendation of a good AV?

Ofcourse. I liked Avast in the past too. These days it doesn't matter anymore.
Even Microsoft's defender scores just as high now as the most well known free AV's like Avira, Avast and AVG.
So the build in from Windows 10 should be enough.
This is also being confirmed by security specialist on Dutch security forums where I'm also running around.

I do have AVG installed, but the only reason for that is, because Defender sometimes starts it automatic scan which can't be disabled. And that started a few times when I was gaming causing lag, which was not nice.
However, when another AV is installed, automatic scan from Defender won't run, so that's the only reason I still use AVG. Free ofcourse.
