First off I want to preface this post with I'm still on the old lifetime license as I only host a handful of websites for friends and family and that's it.
Yesterday (Tues 2/17) I was made aware that a volunteer groups website that I host was no longer loading. Sure enough I went to discover that accessing it resulted in the "Service Unavailable" unavailable message. These same symptoms affected one other site. However 4 other sites remained fully operational and are online as we speak.
Initially I checked SSL certs, checked and compared between working sites and non working sites ensuring name server, DNS records, and other settings were still matched up in the DA control panel (and they were). I made sure I could ping those two domains and the websites (domain.com and www.domain.com) from my PC as well as from an SSH session on the server. All of those worked just fine giving an online response.
Also no website changes were made to either of these sites within the last few months. Both websites have SSL certs enabled with Let's Encrypt. The private_html is a symlink to the public_html folder and that hasn't been touched. That is how other working sites are currently setup as well.
Of the two websites, I'm only concerned about one at the moment which is that of a non-profit volunteer group. When I set their website up, I use the integrated Installatron to setup a WordPress site for them to manage. So I thought I would just use one of the successful backups from Friday and overwrite the site. However that failed. I even decided to use a spare domain I have on here for testing purposes, to restore their site to that test domain to ensure the data restored, that also failed with the same error.
The error I received was "Technical Error: [1] Written file '/home/<account>/domains/<mydomain>/public_html/chae7c67ac8037d4a899eeae7353f21eb4f.php' not accessible at `https://www.valleychurchleague.org/deleteme.chae7c67ac8037d4a899eeae7353f21eb4f.php'.
2026-02-18 19:01:14.38396600 FAILURE [3; /usr/bin/curl] https://www.valleychurchleague.org/deleteme.chae7c67ac8037d4a899eeae7353f21eb4f.php [http code=503]
When navigating to the public_html folder, there was no such deleteme file there with that name. There were other deleteme files with different has numbers at the end, but not that specific one. That same file was referenced when trying to use Installatron to restore to the original location or a new location.
In one last attempt at troubleshooting, I decided to rename the public_html to public_html.BAK and copied over a new public_html with only the default DA welcome screen/html file in it, and viola the domain worked! No more 503 service unavailable.
Now the other website I referenced is my personal one and is NOT a Wordpress site. Just standard HTML/php files. Loading the www.mysite.com page gives a 503 error using a default 503 page I wrote in html many years ago. Also I can goto www.mysite.com/subfolder and that will load totally fine.
I'm at a loss here, namely for the volunteer group site as I want to get that one back up as soon as possible. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before??
