Does this file getting overwritten when easyspam is updated? If so, is there a "custom" version of this that could be used and survive update?

It'd be overwritten, you'd need to chattr it or disabl eximconf updates. variables.conf.custom is for variables.conf overrides only. Please note connect.conf has /etc/exim/rspamd/connect.conf included, if you want to add something there additionally (as it has /etc/exim/rspamd/connect.conf.custom.post).

Thanks, yes I saw that in there. I assume it would be a problem using that file if I were to ever switch over to rspamd? (I was thinking about it when I heard it has greylisting …)
