Hi all,

I'm already fully aware that you cannot and should not delete the default email account which is generated upon user creation. However, I would be grateful to find a way of at least hiding that user account, so that users don't ask questions about it / don't try to change things... and also to have it NOT count against the email quota.

My most entry-level plan has "1" mailbox account included. This mailbox can be created by the user, but of course, if I set the "Plan" to only have "1" email accounts, as advertised, it means that I actually need to write "2" - which shows in the account.

My request is to have the default account count as "0" and for it to be hidden, any ideas?

Thanks!

Maybe this is a solution for you.
scroll down to the "How to disable system email account?" section.

It's also possible to create usernames so you can use these system accounts as normal mailboxes, which then also will get system messages if needed.

Thanks! Thing is, the username will always be something like "contact" which clearly would be an issue when more than one person signs up.

I don't think disabling it will help.. won't that ultimately make mail undeliverable?

Using WHMCS, it basically takes a version from the domain name and creates it on the DA server. The existence of the system account isn't a problem, the fact it cannot be changed and cannot be hidden is.. surely this is an "issue" for others too?

Might be, if you can a lot of users with the same name. Because you can user first name or first name charachters and lastname and those combinations too.

I don't think disabling the system account via the way of the docs state will make mail undeliverable, maybe except to the system account. I'm not sure, never tried this. I always make a forwarder for the user from system account to their normal email account.
The system messages are so few that it reall won't bother the mail quota.

As for WHMCS, we don't use that so I can't help you with that, maybe somebody else who has WHMCS enabled and disabled system accounts.

It can be changed afterwards, by creating a new account with the name you want, so that is system account, and then transfer everything to that account.
Personally I think people are making to big a fuzz over the system account. Inform the user and/or create a forwarder.
I don't know how others do it but in all the years I've got DA I only seen a few wanting to change or hide that.
