I'm a tech idiot, and not so good with administering a website. I buy shared space from a technician who is a total and utter failure as far as tech support. He's also supposed to be a friend, but that's another story.

I need a backup made of a site to remove it from my space, and deliver it to a customer who bought it 5 DAYS AGO. The technician is indifferent and I can't make a backup. He made a backup of all the sites, which is too large to download, but I need just one backed up.

Where do I log in to make a backup? He doesn't answer, and I have been begging for days for some help. I am going to need backups of the other sites as well. But for now, I need the one site backed up and getting into trouble because of non-delivery.

I'm just sick over it. I can't wait to get everything off of his space.

You need to login at the users DA account. The choose the backup option and select what you want to have in the backup.
This can take a bit, after that, login by ftp on the users account into the backup directory and download the tar.gz backup file which should be there.

The user's DA account? I don't have one. I log in from my url/2222 and it takes me to the dashboard. I have to sign up for an account?

It's pretty annoying as well answering the tech questions at this site just to post. I don't know how many bits are in a byte, I'm not in the mood for the dumb calculations, and I don't know what a license costs. It's just making this problem more and more difficult to get help with.

Do you own the server? When you post in Admin Difficulties we presume you're a server administrator. I'm guessing not.

Under the Your Account section find: Create/Restore Backups, click on it and follow the instructions.

If you don't have that link, then you need to get involved with your administrator or hosting company.

I don't own a server, this is an issue with shared hosting and a nonresponsive administrator who is probably sleeping on the couch all day today.

Oh, god. What is the cost of the DirectAdmin to answer the dumb question at the top? It's just an additional hassle for me.

What's the deal anyway forcing you to be an admin in order to make a backup? cPanel lets any user make a backup.

That's what I call the DA account of your server.
Because the dashboard -is- DA.

When you login that way, choose the backup option and go furter as I said, or jlasman says, it's the same thing.

@Flamingpanties: There is no forcing deal. In DA also any user can make a backup without any problem.

Where is the access to make a backup? Me and a different tech are working at it since last night and we can't make a new backup.

Goodmorning then.:D

By the way... if you already have difficulties administering DA, you are going to have a ball on Cpanel. Hope you have a good security admin.
Good luck.

I wrote exactly how to make a backup from your DirectAdmin user-level login. If your login doesn't show that, then it's because your hosting company has chosen not to allow you to make backups. It's got nothing to do with DirectAdmin.

If you saw it and didn't understand it, then you didn't come back and ask for more specific information, which isn't the fault of your DirectAdmin control panel; it's simple enough to use.

Perhaps you should host with a company that takes your phone calls and does everything for you themselves. We and others offer that service but as you may imagine, since support is the most expensive part of webhosting, it's a lot more expensive than most shared hosting. Our clients pay between $35 and $200 per month for that kind of service depending on their needs.

Not that you'll be back, but heres a tip........

Don't mix business with pleasure, I found that out the hard way - gave a friend some hosting for a special price, he didn't even use it or pay for it.

And as for you couldn't backup your site yourself could mean "he" disabled the option to.
