Hello,

According to this article http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=8 I can disable the Local Mail Server.

However, I'm having a problem locating this option. I'm running DA version 1.36.1. I'm unable to find this function. I'm using the default DA skin. Can someone give me click by click directions to this option?

Thank you kindly.

ANSWER (in case you want to skip reading this too long of a thread):

User Login -> domain.com -> DNS Management -> Modify MX Records. Also confirmed that DNS Control is required at a reseller level for the user.

The instructions are incorrect as there isn't a Mail option with the enhanced skin for the user that has DNS Control enabled, only the DNS Management link appears.

Direct link is:
Code:
http://yourdomain.com:2222/CMD_DNS_MX?domain=yourdomain.com

UPDATE: As pointed out by floyd you can also get there by doing the following:

User Login -> domain.com -> E-Mail Management (section not a link) -> MX Records

If you tell us under what user you are logging in and what you are clicking on then we can probably tell you where you are going wrong.

Does it really matter? It's under any user. The feature isn't present. Can you find the feature anywhere? If I login as admin, then the user or user direct, the feature isn't there. Where is the feature? How can you get to the feature from any account?

Edit: After all, this is the question I'm asking, what should I click to get to the option described in the article. Who should I log in under?

Yes it does.

Other than flyod, is there anyone that can answer this question? ( Floyd is wrong ) - How do you find the option described here:

http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=8

Following the DA directions yields a negative result. There is no such thing as Email per step 1. There is an option "E-Mail Accounts" link, but the MX Records link is not present under that menu. A direct link to the option would even be welcome.

Floyd, if you feel the need to respond, I will just consider you a troller that lacks computer knowledge or who isn't reading my posts carefully before responding.

I can confirm this, but if the user has no DNS Control in the package, it won't appear, we disable DNS as all our nameservers are 3rd party.

It has to be enabled for the user and then you have to login as the user and uncheck the box and save and then you can disable to the user.

A shorter way is through ssh and delete the domain from the /etc/virtual/domains file.

@srelliott I have a lot more knowledge about DirectAdmin than most people here and if people simply answer my questions I can give them the shortest and most direct answer with step by step instructions without a lot of fluff. I did not want to write a manual about how to do this or write up every possible way this can be done.

If I login as admin
Thank you. You had not told us that in your first post. Login as admin do this:

Using the Enhanced Skin (Shown here which is what is enabled by default so I still do not know for sure which skin you are using, Enhanced, which is enabled by default or the skin that is actually named Default).

1. Login as admin
2. Click Show all Users
3. Find the user that owns the domain
4. Click that user
5. Click Modify User
6. Make sure DNS Control is checked and Save
7. Click Home and Repeat 2-4
8. Click Login as
9. Click the domain if there is more than one. If only one skip this step.
10. Click MX records
11. Uncheck "Use this server to handle my emails" which is under the "Local Mail Server" section.

If you are a reseller its slightly different and if you are a user its even more different.

With any problem if one does not tell us what has already been tried then the answer is going to be a lot longer than necessary. We are all volunteers here and our time is very valuable so we do not want to waste time by writing a lot of unnecessary steps.

There is a such thing as Email. Using the enhanced skin the E-Mail Accounts link that you saw is under that section called E-mail Management. You can see it here. You can also see MX Records on that page. But DNS Control has to be enabled for that user.

There are posts discussing this issue all over this forum. That is the reason I know the answer.

And the correct answer is.....

User Login -> domain.com -> DNS Management -> Modify MX Records. Also confirmed that DNS Control is required at a reseller level for the user.

The instructions are incorrect as there isn't a Mail option with your enhanced skin for the user that has DNS Control enabled, only the DNS Management link appears.

DA - Please update your documentation.

For future reference, the direct link is:
Code:
http://yourdomain.com:2222/CMD_DNS_MX?domain=yourdomain.com

Thank you.

And the correct answer is.....

User Login -> domain.com -> DNS Management -> Modify MX Records.

That is certainly one way. The other is

User Login -> domain.com -> E-Mail Management -> MX Records

E-Mail Management is not a link but a section on the page. Its the section with all the email functions such email accounts and forwarders.

See attached image.

The instructions are incorrect as there isn't a Mail option

Technically you are correct. The proper term is E-Mail Management instead of just Email.

If you disable the mail on the local webserver, can users use still there webmails on the local machine?

Yes, it's possible (should be verified), because with switching Local Mail Server off, none email accounts would be deleted.

Webmail could be used to send email; it wouldn't be usable to receive email because it wouldn't get any email.
