Hello everyone,
I am kind of new here. My server is configured on RAID 1 with two disks but one of them failed I need assistance to bring the server live using the other disk that is alive. I have been issued with KVM console by the data center anyone who can assist me kindly come to my resquest I have over 1000 websites and they will skin me and roast me.

When a drive in RAID-1 fails the raid enters "rebuild mode". When the failed drive is replaced it will automatically start cloning the data from the intact disk.

"how" you rebuild it is entirely dependent on the raid controller. Most of the time it's automatic and only involves hotswapping the failed drive out for a healthy one.

You should rebuild by manual.

That means if I got you correct replacing the faulty one via hotswap should be the first thing to do. Thereafter if the booting doesnt take place i can do a manual process and rebuild my services.

server type? check imm or drac or ilo about the controller, keep cool, replace the faulty drive and wait until the sync is done. probably it's a lsi controller, install the tools on your os and best of all the monitoring tools also

BTW: don't put 1000 sites on one box...

Thanks a lot, guys it worked for me. I chose to use the live drive and ward off pressure from the clients thereafter I will replace the faulty drive at Hetzner.

I just want to point out that the server should not have gone offline. You have a problem somewhere else if it did.

The problem that I had was that during the upgrade of DA apache went offline and I had to rebuild it, during the process I realized that the server load was heading to 100 + and there wasn't anything serious on the server. Doing a hardware audit proved that one disk was faulty. I wasnt sure about that hence the reason why the server went down. The hot-swap of disks could have taken place at that time.

have over 1000 websites
I would concur with @apogee
Don't do this. Server resources are not unlimited that is a marketing hoax. The server is a big hunk of metal and silicon its finite.

I am glad you got it fixed now go buy a second server.
