Dear Users,

I'm using Direct Admin for a domein, now the following is going on: the owner is using DA only for his domeinname hosting.
Not for e-mail beceause there is a Exchange Server at the office with an own IP (82.91.27.123)

Everything is going to the servers IP (194.124.174.40)

Is there sombody who can tell me how get the right setting?
This is how it looks like now:

Name Type Value
--------------------------------------------------
faq A 194.124.174.40
ftp A 194.124.174.40
localhost A 127.0.0.1
mail A 194.124.174.40
pop A 194.124.174.40
domain.com. A 194.124.174.40
www A 194.124.174.40
www.faqs A 194.124.174.40
domain.com. NS ns1.domain.com.
domain.com. NS ns2.domain.com.
mail MX 10
domain.com. TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:194.124.174.40 ?all"

I would like to know if there is anybody who can tell what change i have to make, and how to do it.. or what it should look like!

Thanks for responding!!!!

From the DNS manager for the domain, put a ckeck mark in the box to the right of the mail entry. Then click the delete button. Now, locate the first line on that same page that says "Add Domain Record" on the first line, type "mail" (without quotes) now tab over to the next line to the right and enter the IP Address: 82.91.27.123 Once you have the correct IP Address listed, click the "Add" button. You have now added an A record for the Exchange server. If they are using POP, you will want to do the same thing for this entry also. As it needs to point to the same server.

Provided the customer has a working Exchange server, mail will start working shortly for that domain on the Exchange server.

Thank you very much!

It now looks like this:

Name Type Value
--------------------------------------------------
faq A 194.124.174.40
ftp A 194.124.174.40
localhost A 127.0.0.1
mail A 82.91.27.123
pop A 194.124.174.40
domain.com. A 194.124.174.40
www A 194.124.174.40
www.faqs A 194.124.174.40
domain.com. NS ns1.domain.com.
domain.com. NS ns2.domain.com.
mail MX 10
domain.com. TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:194.124.174.40 ?all"

Could you confirm this is right? Thanks!!!!!!!!

Also: At this moment there are pop3 mailboxes, can i delete them?

I edited my post while you were making this change. As I did not see that you were using POP also.

Do the same thing for POP so that it point to the Exchange serever also.

You should be able to delete the existing email accounts on your server with no problem.

Well, the following was going on, they never used popmail beceause they have an exchange server. But after moving the domeinname hosting from one ISP to another i still didn't know about the exchange server. I delivered them the currect emailaccounts they used with new passwords.. but there systemmanager called me next day only dns forwarding to the exchange server was enough.

When i delete the current pop accounts, is it so that all e-mail comes in at the exchange?

DNS is what tells the world where to send the email and their web site. As the world starts sending them email, it will be sent to their exchange server based on the DNS entry you changed a little bit ago.

By deleting the 3 email accounts on your server, you will not have any affect on their accounts since you have changed DNS for Mail.

If they do not need / want the POP entry, you can remove it from your DNS. Some folks use this to show a difference in incoming and out going mail even though it all points to the same IP Address. It will not hurt to have it in DNS pointing to the new IP Address.

They never had pop-accounts, so i will delete the ones i made a few days ago, everything is inside the exchange server they use.
I think i'm understandig it al!

it doensn't matter if the line: pop A 194.124.174.40 is still there?

Once again, thanks for your help!
