Dns record problem

As I replied today in another thread, the way to resolve it, if you really don't want mail, pop, etc., to point to your website is to use the server IP# for them. Are you certain this causes problem with Google? I tend to doubt it because millions of sites are served this way, including all sites on shared IP#s.

Can you point to a reference?
