Hi ive recently purchased myself a dedicated server running directadmin but i am confused to how i should setup the dns.

I purchased the domain name stinghost.co.uk from 123reg a while ago and i am wanting to use that as the main domain for my server.

I know i can edit the A records for www and @ in my 123 reg controlpanel to point to my server but how would it be possible for me to use nameservers such as

ns1.stinghost.co.uk
ns2.stinghost.co.uk

for users domains? Would i have to run my own nameservers? Ive seen in my 123reg control panel that if i set the nameservers to those i can specify 2 ip addresses im guessing i could do that and point those towards my server?

The only problem is the moment is that i only have 1 ip address and the 2 have to be unique as far as i understand is this correct? Would i have get another ip address to do this (my provider charges £15)? Is it even advisable to run both on the same server?

Any help would be much apprechiated.

Edit: Sorry i just noticed the dns forum can someone please move this for me?

Hello,

Yes you would need atleast 2 ips to run your own dns, unless you can get someone to run as secondary for you. That being said you can run both ip's on the same server, the only draw back is you wouldn't "technically" have a secondary for when your primary nameserver goes down.
