dovecot config settings for IMAP

When I installed the direct admin dovecot it wrote a dovecot config file in /etc/dovecot.conf.

But now I see that the directadmin Exim saves virtual mailboxes in an IMAP folder and the default is to use imapd through inetd.

But if I want to use dovecot as the IMAP server what settings should I use?

The default /etc/dovecot.conf file has all the IMAP settings commented out.

What are the imap settings for dovecot to work with directadmin?

Yes, DirectAdmin's implementation of Exim saves virtual mailboxes in an IMAP folder once you've used the DirectAdmin installer to set up Dovecot.

The settings in the /etc/dovecot.conf file work for most of us. It's not clear from the file, but my guess is that all those commented out sections use defaults if you don't uncomment them and change them. But it's only my guess; you might want to ask the question on a Dovecot forum.

When you install Dovecot the IMAP works through the dovecot managed daemons; on my servers, at least, IMAP is no longer managed by inetd.

Well after digging through the forums and re-building dovecot and restarting directadmin with the dovecot=1 I am still getting this error:
---------
Jan 1 23:16:18 galaxy1 dovecot[25647]: auth(default): passwd-file /etc/virtual/xxx.net/passwd: User websales is missing userdb info
Jan 1 23:16:18 galaxy1 dovecot[25647]: user [email protected]: Logins with UID 0 not permitted
Jan 1 23:16:25 galaxy1 dovecot[25647]: user [email protected]: Logins with UID 0 not permitted
--------------------

Some others in the forum had the same problem and said it got fixed by doing the conversion to dovecot method. But I tried that too and it is still not fixed.

Why won't directadmin create a passwd file with the userdb info?

ok problem is fixed now

I had to reboot the whole server before directadmin finally reloaded the new config file with the dovecot=1 setting.

It would not reload the new configuration with stop, start, restart or reload!

You answered my question in the other thread. If directadmin isn't restarting when you tell it to from the control panel you might want to check with DirectAdmin Support.
