Edit php files in file manager

I am unable to edit php.ini files in file manager.
What do I need to do to activate this?

php.ini can only be eddited by the Server Admin, contact your hosting.

I am the admin, I have a dedicated server running directadmin. I am a little new at this, so a little help would be appreciated.

You'll have to log in through a shell, and use su - to become root.

Then find the file:

locate php.ini

and edit it.
