Hi Guys,

I'm trying to setup the server so that you can relay through the server via SMTP Auth. You can send an email fine through the webmail, however it just rejects when trying to send via Outlook/Thunderbird.

Here's the error message:

2006-10-11 09:11:07 H=([192.168.14.1]) [212.108.76.37] F=<[email protected]> rejected RCPT <[email protected]>: authentication required

I'm a bit of a exim newbie so any help would be welcome!

Thanks & Regards,
Joni.

This is quite weird. I have a number of domains on the server, with no email problems on any of them except one.

On this one domain I can send emails from one account on the domain to any other on the same domain, or to any other domain on the same server. However, on that one domain only, I can't send to any domain outside the server.

This applies when using Outlook. I can send emails using webmail ok.

Incomiing mail is fine - just sending is the problem.

I'm sure this is something dead simple. Help?

The default exim.conf file allows authentication by either POPb4SMTP or SMTP auth. No server setting should be required.

Make sure Outlook is using PLAIN TEXT authorization.

I have no idea. I don't use outlook. In fact I don't use Windows :) .

Sorry, I actually missed something with the info above. I had thought that only one domain on the server wasn't sending emails, but in fact I believe now that none of the domains will send outside the server.

I can receive emails from anywhere, but can only send to other domains on the same server. The error returned is

550 authentication required

It doesn't make any difference if I do tick the Authentication option in Outlook.

It's as though the system has some sort of block on anything going out of the server via SMTP.
