Hello,

I just bought my new server for the first time and it comes with directadmin as a control panel.

Here's my scenario and i hope someone from this board is kind enough to help me.

i ordered the server and requested it to be called "mysite.com" for e.g.

so when the server arived, the host name was called server.mysite.com.... everything is ok so far!

Next thing i did when i got my login details, i logged in as "admin", added all my IPs (5 of them) and then created a reseller package.

Then i created a new reseller for my self called "latheesan" (because i cant sell hosting from the admin account, i will need a reseller account to do so).

When i was creating the reseller account, it asked for the domain name, so i entered "mysite.com" and it throwed a error. It said, the host name is reserved or something and i cant use this domain name on my reseller account therefore use a different domian name.

Why is this first of all and how im i suppose to sell hosting to indiduals if i cant add the main domain name into my reseller account? SOOOOOOOOO confusing?

Please help, i dont speak "directadmin" yet, im such a noobie

Hi,

Just click the "Reseller Level" what is located near the Log Out button on the top right from your admin account.

You don't need a separate reseller....

Thanks,
Grant

omg, now it is begining to make sense!!!!

Let me give it a go

Thanks allot :D

ohh yea, one more thing...

I clicked on IP Management and all of them are on the status "Free"

how do they become name servers?

when i click on "user level" and add my domain names?

i added all my 4 domain names by clicking on "user level" and then "domain administration"

but the thing is, i clicked on ip management and 1 ip is being used and it is called "server"

others are just there with the status "free"

how do u make them into name servers?

You'll want to look at this page http://www.directadmin.com/technotes.html and the manuals on this page http://www.directadmin.com/support.html

IPs are listed as Free as long as no users are using them or they have not been assigned to one user or reseller.

Nameservers I believe you assign IPs to through your Reseller screen. You will need those IPs for other steps.

Make sure that your DNS record (zone file) clearly lists your nameserver hostnames with an A record and the IP address. (see DNS Administration at the support link above.)

In addition, your nameservers need to be registered with your Domain Registrar (OpenSRS, GoDaddy, etc) You can usually accomplish the Registrar part by logging into wherever you registered your domain name and looking for something that says "Create Nameservers"

Now i get it,

First, i added the ip addresses

second, i assigned 2 free ip addresses to "admin"

third, clicked on "reseller level"

fourth, clicked on "nameservers" found under the heading "extra features"

fifth, the two ip addresses i asigned to "admin" appeared, so i slected them

sixth, i selected the domain name i wanted to create name servers out of from the dropdown list of domain names, i.e. mysite.com

seventh, i clicked on the button "create" and presto the name servers are created

i dont know about you but for a first timer, this isnt simple nor straight forward

man, what a day!!!

btw, i figured out this by my self when i saw the link "name servers" in the reseller level...
