Never mind. Seems Apple does not provide write access to volumes mounted using anything but AFP or SMB. Its an Apple/OS issue, not a general FTP or DA issue.

Looks like using OS X built-in FTP (mounting public_html as a network drive on the desktop) is problematic. When attempting to upload files this way we're seeing "public_html cannot be modified" error messages. Downloads are working fine.
Here's a screen shot of the error.
We've confirmed it. Using any other FTP client works just fine.
Even trying to chmod to 777 doesn't solve the problem. Has anyone else seen this or found a work-around?
