Have been using ftp to manage my site, just switched to directadmin. Problem is, the existing, DirectAdmin provided, index.html file won't go away, even though I rename it index2.html. I assumed if you upload your own index.html file, linking to the public_html directory, that then all you would have to do is upload a folder containing the website to the public_html. Do I need to upload the website, file-by-file, into the public_html directory? If so, I'd rather stick to the old ftp method.

Thanks..Jim

The index.html does not "link" to public_html. You have to upload the index.html into the /domains/example.com/public_html

If you want more help you need to give us the domain so we can see for ourselves.
