HELP! Cant install templates

whenever i download a template then click on upload a file ( i call the template index.html ) my homepage which is all i have right now looks like this!! no pictures are displayed. why??

check your code, it might be due to incorrect directory, if possible, show us the link to it.

Can u just give meh step by step insturctions of how to install the templates and pages please.

there is ment to be an image and its not there, i have compiled it with dreamweaver and frontpage and both have the same problem when i upload it to my site, what am i doing wrong.
