I just did a complete cvsup/buildworld/installworld on my FreeBSD 5.4, so i'm running about the latest there is.

I seem t have broken named. I can still access my site using IP, but not a chance using domain.

nameservers don't even respond.

The conf is setup correctly, I dunno what's up.

It's 5:39am, and I didn't get any sleep doing all this, so I'ma pass out in a bit

Despite lack of info at this point, can I simply take out everyhting to do with bind, install a fresh bind9 from ports, and redo the dns for my domain?

Starting from scratch sounds like a good idea.

Oct 18 18:00:01 exodus named[2046]: starting BIND 9.3.1 -u bind

odd

/var/named/etc/namedb/named.conf says:
// If named is being used only as a local resolver, this is a safe default.
// For named to be accessible to the network, comment this option, specify
// the proper IP address, or delete this option.
listen-on { 72.20.2.158; };

..which looks correct to me

Here's from ps:
bind 3278 0.0 0.7 4712 3636 ?? Ss 6:05PM 0:00.02 /usr/sbin/named -u bind

any ideas?
I'm off to work.

I run bind 9.3 and do not use this option.

from the docs:

the listen-on option will cause the server to not accept queries on any of the machine's addresses which do not match the list

maybe comment out this and restart ?

wow, that did it.

I thought maybe DA put that IP in there so I left it.

Oh well, works now.
