how do delete a user from command line

Well maybe I'm not older (if your also old then), so still no reason to be disrespectfull.
Dude is slang for endearing like a friend. Not disrespectful at all. Now I guess we can argue about now.

EXACTLY! So you agree with me here. Because something bad -could- happen. It does not say it's -wrong- like you said.

Must be a language issue. For most here its the same. "Do not enter" means if you enter then what you are doing is wrong. If a parent tells a child "Do not talk" then it would wrong for the child to talk. Its really that simple. I am sure if I tried to translate to another language I would have the same problem.

Both you guys made some great points, and in doing so, helped the thread by giving clarity on technical reasons why one method might be chosen over the other. (y)

It seems the real catalyst here was brevity of the response. To strongly say "don't listen to him, but do this instead" without including the technical reasons, could come across as criticism of @floyd who was just trying to help.

On the other hand, @Richard G pointed out that emphasized language is not inherently antagonistic -- and that we have extra complications like everyone not being a native English speaker. So even one word can make things messy.

I think we can all agree that strongly worded language is fine, especially if its motivation is good, but to avoid confusion it should always accompany a technical explanation. Then it is seen as presenting alternatives instead of inadvertently coming across as criticism.

But he didn't give the system command to do that. I don't even know the command. I have always edited those files.
I must agree editing passwd file manually seems a bit risky, but if it works for you, thats great (i actually did the same thing)

I guess there is only a few of us who don't mind risk. I always have a backup of the passwd file so I don't feel like it is risky at all. The key is knowing how to recover. I always know how to recover if I am the one who did something.
