How do i change the default root email address?

Your backups are now ready message, is send by admin@hostname and can be changed by changing the admin mail address. As explained in post #8 and linked to in post #12.
That is what I did already "The emailadress from admin user is also changed. See post #17". That's why I asked for help here :sneaky:

Oke did you doublecheck via SSH in the admins user.conf file?

Also check the ticket system in DA.
Login as admin. Then as admin click on the right side on "Hello admin" and choose "messages".
Then you get this screen:

Click on the Options there. It will say "email a copy of all messages to", and check it's changed there too and not stating diradmin@hostname anymore.

did that as well as /usr/local/directadmin/data/users/admin/user.conf as ticket.conf
in both is email correct...but the mail is still sending from root@hostname instead of the mail configured

but the mail is still sending from root@hostname
And that is the mail about backups being ready?

I would suggest rebooting the server if it's night time. Sometimes that solves odd issues.

If that doesn't fix things I would suggest sending in a ticket.
Because for the part of the backup notices, if indeed everything is filled in correctly like you say, then there is no reason for it not to work.
Mention in the ticket that you already checked user.conf and ticket mail and admin address.

yes

did do that, created a backup, still from root@hostname
also mail rejected send mail directadmin@hostname "New Message: The service 'mysqld' on server hostname is currently down"
If that doesn't fix things I would suggest sending in a ticket.

did do that, so will wait for response.

Thanks again @Richard G

solved this by changing the SPF-records and PTR-records for hostname (subdomain), after they were valid, the mail could be sent and after that the mailsender is changed to the emailaddress I wanted.

Very odd. Because both SPF and PTR records have nothing to do with the from e-mail address.
But glad to see it's fixed now.

I completely agree with you, that's what I thought too. I had quite a discussion with the people from DA support, but after adjusting these DNS records the email works. A small note when sending emails in DA you see sender root@hostname, but when received I see my adjusted email address

Answering Post #1 : Changing 'root' email address
Log on to DirectAdmin Control Panel as an administrator
Admin page, not User page
System Info & Files
File Editor
edit the /etc/aliases file
toward the bottom, look for 'root: [email protected]'
If commented with '#' remove the '#' and change.
Save and then authenticate if necessary.
