Built in to exim.conf ACLs.

User-level SpamAssassin together with MailScanner, ClamAV

Hi.

It is possible to run the User-level SpamAssassin together with MailScanner and ClamAV. For more info see: http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=55728#post55728

*********************************
Install Spamassasin
*********************************
# cd /usr/local/directadmin/scripts
# ./spam.sh

You can also tweak spam.sh so that it picks up the latest version.

!Do not modify exim.conf to use spamassassin!
!Do not load spamd

I'm still trying to figure out if spamd is needed by somebody...

If you want to run the User-level SpamAssassin as described on the DA website (http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=36) you do have to run spamd. If you don't it simply does not work. Don't ask me why, but it simply won't work without it.

Mailscanner, ClamAV and SpamAssassin

Isn't it possible to keep the User-level Spamassassin and just use Mailscanner to scan for virusses?

I kind of like that User-level SpamAssassin and so do my clients. :D
You might be able to, but if it's a busy server the load will be quite nasty.

If you run spamd MailScanner will not work properly.

Re: Re: User-level SpamAssassin together with MailScanner, ClamAV

If you run spamd MailScanner will not work properly.

How do you explain that it's working on my server??
Or might it just seem it is working?

If I look at the email headers I get headers from SpamAssassin and from MailScanner.

Spam get's filtered nicely, and I tried sending the Eicar test virus and it was effectively deleted by MailScanner/ClamAV. If I send some nasty html code I get those {disarmed} messages.

It seems to be working??

You can see below it's al running on my system.

Really? Is the load so bad?

How do I check that? I'm not having any problems so far, but I'm just setting up the server and I haven't transferred all my customers yet.

I should have around 300 mailboxes on my system when I'm running on full capacity. Do you think that might be a problem?

I'm running on a single processor Pentium 4 and I have 2 Gb RAM installed (I think). I would have to look it up to be certain.

So, when spamd is running it's not possible to use ClamAV?
Works fine on my server. Seems some people have trouble with that. Have to say, I don't have verry heavy load on that server.

Yea I installed ClamAV myself now without the use of MailScanner.
Seems to be going just fine.

OK. Your the 3th to tell me that.
I would like an explanation why? It's seems to be working fine on my server, so why do people keep telling me it can't work ?!?

How can I locate the problem you are reffering to?

I'm running spamd to facilitate the user-level SpamAssassin integrated into DA.
Beside that I'm running MailScanner to facilitate ClamAV server wide.
Seems to work just fine.
Ofcourse this will work somewhat slower because mails are being processed twice. Once for Spam and once for ClamAV.

Please explane. I want to know if I'm going to run into trouble.

Hi,

I beleive mailscanner updates clamav virus definitions, how can I verify it's working?

Thanks

Check the logs. You should see some form of output on the AV update scripts
