On one box of mine it says a green 1 after Licensing / Updates, so I clicked on it. It isn't a DA update, but the license appears to be expired;

License Type External license
Valid After Wed Dec 31 08:00:00 2003
Valid Until Sun Dec 28 04:01:07 2014
Portioned License This Portioned License is a license that has a true expiry at a date farther into the future than is set in the physical key. The license will automatically update to the next time period when the key's expiry nears.
True expiry: Tue Jan 19 04:14:07 2038
Current Server Time Mon Dec 29 15:53:14 2014
Time Remaining -1 days, -11 hours and -52 minutes
Last Updated Mon Dec 29 15:53:08 2014

As you can see I just updated it (by clicking the link in DA, and manually by getLicense script), but it still says -1 days and such.

What can be the cause of this?

As it turned out, there was an old instance of DA running having the old license loaded in. I even had this a few years ago :D http://forum.directadmin.com/showthread.php?t=40866 (didn't post the solution though).

Maybe this could be a bug somewhere in the restart portion of DA? I have experienced it a couple of times now, that if I restart DA, maybe through service directadmin restart, or maybe through /etc/init.d that it doesn't properly kill all the processes but it does start new ones. I only manage Debian machines.
