Limit edit time on posts

@fln @smtalk Seems the edit time on posts on this forum is set to unlimited.
As this might be good for mods, it's not the best idea for users. They can edit or delete their posts from long ago, bringing things out of context for example.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to limit the edit time to a couple of hours? Which should be way more than enough to correct any typo's or information. And it's very easy to do in this forum software. It's only 1 setting.

I'm not against editing either, only against long time editing.
I'm not against short term deleting either but it's the same, if you don't shorten the edit time, you can always delete something too and replace by just a space or something.

For me too, but I was just being generous.
On our hobby forums, since not everybody is as quick, we have set it to 30 mins.

Yes that is possible. But in that case one does edit his/her post and removes all content, then still it's deleted, also changing context is still possible then.
That's why it might be best to limit edit time and remove delete permissions.

Changing stuff is also possible on a per forum base, just takes some more work to configure.

Anyway it's up to staff if they like the idea.

When you want to give a Tl;dr, you can provide it at the end of a thread. However, when people see there's 3 pages to read through, they won't be doing that, even if it has the solved prefix. That's something I see going for editing a thread long after it has been started.

I would suggest giving a limit to how often it can be edited, for example 5 times max. If it's worth kept editing afterwards, a moderator or admin could take the thread upon oneself to edit it freely. Ironic edit: or make it so that specific, important thread can be edited indefinitely

That is not possible. Forum software only provides a time limit, not an amount.

It goes with permissions, so for mods and admins it can be set so they can always edit a thread.
