Log File Permissions

From a client:

I recently installed awstats on my account and I have it setup to purge the log files after analyzing them, but I receive the following permissions warning in the results:

Warning: awstats couldn't purge logfile "/var/log/httpd/domains/hisdomain.com.log".

Change your logfile permissions to allow write for your web server CGI process...

I've got several customers, at a couple different companies asking about this, and I'm not finding ANYTHING regarding this. Can this be done? If so, How?

Hello,

I've never use awstats before, but make sure that the cgi is running with adequate privileges to read the log file (probably root if it's to delete them). Also make sure that the files isn't being deleted by DA before the awstats are being run.. (depends on when your script runs).

It's client installed, not the global install....

is it still safe to change the permissions?
