is there something compatible with DirectAdmin that can be used to do image verification on E-mails?

I don't know the real name of that, but I mean when you want a auto-response to be sent to users not yet authorized to send you E-mail... and they must type a code (read on a image) that will whitelist them

There are plenty of captcha projects out there; a simple Google search will find lots of them.

I'm not sure what you mean by compatible with DA. DA doesn't care what's on your site.

Or do you mean somehow integrated into DA?

I don't mean for sites, but for E-mails
so the same way user could go on DA and set an auto-response or enable spamassassin, he could enable this "captcha" for E-mails
when an unknown source sends him an E-mail, he receives a reply requesting to type the content of the image

In other words challenge and response.

This has been discussed previously on these forums.

It turns you into a spammer because every time you get an email you send this. Including when you get spam with forged sender addresses.

Do this and you may be on a lot of blocklists within hours of setting it up.

Check out this Wikipedia entry and especially the section marked Criticisms before considering this.

I would also be interested in this.

Spammers are finding ways around all the filters that are out there. This is the only way to insure 100% the e-mail you get is the e-mail you want. I'm tired of cleaning out inboxes and spamboxes.

So, Jay, what you're saying is that you don't mind becoming a spammer if it'll help you eliminate spam coming into your server?

I'm sorry, but I can't help you become a spammer.

However lots of people can; google challenge response.

Jeff

so because earthlink.net utilizes this type of technology, this must mean they are a spammer?

Nevermind...

Lots of legitimate companies use challenge/response. It makes them into spammers as I've written above.

Big companies such as Earthlink get away with it because very few people (some do) are willing to block all email from earthlink.

You may or may not be as lucky. I know you can end up on blocklists. Even blocklists that SpamBlocker uses. I can't promise you will or you won't.

The problem is real. The email comes with a forged from address. Sometimes by the thousands. Your server sends those thousands of email to the forged sender, who never sent you anything.

If you don't call that spam, then what do you call it?

Jeff

Okay, then how about a slight redirect on how I'm looking at this.

A daily message digest that you get sent that indicates what they system feels is spam - and this case is your own whitelist. Within the daily digest, you can select addresses you want added to the white list or just messages you want to see.

What I'm trying to do is create the least amount of crap (aka spam) that get's into my inbox, while still allowing me to see real e-mails come thru. The once-a-day digest (or manual review at the :2222 level) I think would facilitate this.

Since I really don't want to thread jack this specific topic. I'm going to create a new one as this is a different approach.
