I am new to DA, and just started with a new server. The mail worked fine form standard installation and after the switch to exim.
Then I started with Spamassin and ClamAV.
Now my mail stays in the queue and nothing can be picked up by the user (either via pop mail or webmail).
Can anybody give me the hint to where I made the mistake? Thank you already.

Ron Hoskens,
The Netherlands.

Did you have a look at /var/log/exim/mainlog or /var/log/maillog already?
You might find some more information in there.

thank you

I did indeed, and didn't find anything helpful.
In the end I changed to the original exim config file, and now the mails come through. I lost the ones that were in the queue, but it looks like it works now.
Then later on I will try to ad the spamassin and clamav options again.
I really would like to get that working.
thanks for the reply.

Ron.

still problems with mailqueue

The mailqueue works, but with a half an hour delay. (at least).
I keep getting
Code:
R=virtual_user T=virtual_localdelivery defer (13): Permission denied: failed to create directories for /var/spool/virtual/domain.nl: Permission denied
any body a idea?
I have run the script to set the permissions alread. didn do any good.

thanks for support.
Ron.

Strange

I also have a list active for this domain, and when sending mail to the list it shows the following (as errors in the log):
Code:
2008-05-27 13:37:26 [email protected] <[email protected]> R=virtual_user T=virtual_localdelivery defer (13): Permission denied: failed to create directories for /var/spool/virtual/tbaplus.nl: Permission denied
2008-05-27 13:37:29 [email protected] <[email protected]>: local_delivery transport succeeded

How can that be? it really dellivers to the 1 user, but not immediatly to the other. after half an hour or so it will deliver both.

Firthermore, I see in the Log section of the DA interface that there is a Exim Maillog and a System maillog.
Exim shows ie:

Is there meant to be two mail logs? and does anybody see anything strange except the permission dinied problem?
Can anybody help with a solution?

Ron.

Try this:

Copy the code below into file:

/var/spool/virtual/rebuild

Type:

chmod 750 ./rebuild

Then type:

./rebuild

Code:
#!/bin/sh

pwd=$(pwd) # Keep set to pwd or set to full path to the pwd command.
whoami=$(whoami) # Keep set to whoami or set to full path of whoami command.

################### DO NOT TOUCH CODE UNDER HERE #####################

domainowners=$(cat /etc/virtual/domainowners | sed 's/://' | tr -s ' ' ':')

if [ $whoami != "root" ]; then
        echo
echo "You must be root to run this program!"
        echo
        exit 1

elif [ $pwd != "/var/spool/virtual" ]; then
        echo
echo "You must be in the /var/spool/virtual folder to run this program."
        echo
        exit 1
else

for i in $domainowners; do

        # Create Domain Folder
        echo $i | cut -f1 -d: > /tmp/domains.$$
        mkdir $(cat /tmp/domains.$$)

        # Chown Domain Folder
        echo $i | cut -f2 -d: > /tmp/users.$$
        chown $(cat /tmp/users.$$):$(cat /tmp/users.$$) $(cat /tmp/domains.$$)
done

fi

rm -rf /tmp/domains.$$ /tmp/users.$$
exit 0

nov virtual dir

thanks chatwizrd,

but I don't have a /virtual subdir in spool. if I make one en try to run the rebuild, it still says I need to be in the virtual subdir.
Why don't I have the virtual subdir?

is a new install according to http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=143 an idea?
thanks.
Ron.

New info: The outgoing mail leaves the server immediatly, so no hickups what so ever. just the local users stay in the queue for a long while. Anybody hints?

Ron.

If you are using dovecot then it shouldnt even be looking in /var/spool/virtual

Its weird because your error said:

Permission denied: failed to create directories for /var/spool/virtual/tbaplus.nl: Permission denied

Did you recently upgrade to dovecot?

If so did you follow this guide: http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=590

The ./build todovecot is very imporant.

solved

Thanks chatwizrd,

it is solved. I used http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=143 instead of your mentioned link. I thought I had the custombuild installed at first.
But after running that again it didn't solve. After running your link, it is solved.
And a lot of non delivered mail went thru also. thanks a bunch.

Ron.

You're right that it isn't supposed to be trying to write to /var/spool/virtual/ but it seems that using custombuild on a new install is missing something. I have been fighting this for an hour and finally used the manual instructions found here: http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=51

Did that and restarted both my dovecot and my exim and things are ok now. I would have used the customapache fix above but since it was a new install it asked me during the initial build whether I wanted customapache or custombuild. I chose custombuild so I don't even have a customapache folder.

Regardless the help file at http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=51 is the fix for the new woes. Now on to the next one.

The queue run is crashing with signal 11 (but you probably knew that). You might want to google for that error (without the parts that change each time). When i did that one of the pages I found was this one; look for Q0602.
I'm not sure what you mean (your first post in this thread) by switch to exim, as DirectAdmin never uses anything else except exim.

If you had DirectAdmin staff perform your DirectAdmin install and you haven't made any changes to the configuration since you might want to check with DirectAdmin support here. If you installed it yourself and haven't made any changes to the configuration as set by DirectAdmin, also check with them. If your server came with DirectAdmin installed, check with the company from where you got the server to see what they did, as they're responsible for DirectAdmin support on your server. If you made changes, try undoing them, follow the instructions in the Exim FaQ quoted above.

Regarding exim segfaults, we're not completely sure what the issue is.
We've compiled a list of things we think may be solutions, but they're all just guesses you can try.

The first thing to try is a full recompile of exim for your system:
Rpm based system: http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=126
FreeBSD/Debian: http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=125

Past that, this is the list of things we've tried which some have reported to work:
http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=114

Also, if you update your eximl.conf and are using dovecot, make *sure* you re-patch it for dovecot, or you'll get /var/spool/virtual errors, which are for vm-pop3d, not dovecot.

Hello,
Code:
dbstuff.h:103:16: error: db.h: No such file or directory

You're mising db4-devel (what it's called on a rpm system)

On our debian 3.1 box it's called: libdb4.3-dev

On freebsd, I've never not seen that error.. but the package would again be similar. db4 of somesort.

I'm having another problem here.
The mails stay in the queue and are never sent (I've waited days and nothing).
If I go to the Queue Administration and set them to retry, they are sent without problems.

I checked exim logs and no error appears, but the mail is not sent:

Code:
2009-04-16 18:13:01 1LuZpN-0002PD-8A <= [email protected] U=apache P=local S=544 T="test subject" from <[email protected]> for [email protected]

I changed the information on purpose for privacy matters.
The emails are being sent from a simple ad hoc PHP, using the mail() function.

Any ideas on how to debug this?

I'm running Exim 4.67, on a Centos 5.2 with DA, also running ClamAV, AVG, SpamAssasin and MailScanner.

If you can resend them manually without a problem your main running exim process may not be starting queue-runners.

If you don't know how to check for this then post the output of this command:
$ps waux | grep exim
