mailbox lock

Hello,
Is there any solution for this error (except dovecot ) :- failed to
lock mailbox.
Because when this error occurs, neither recever gets mail nor sender
gets bounce.
There should be atleast bounce message generated, so that the sender
should know what happened to his sent mail.
