Hello,

Is there a way to change the sender's name when I send an e-mail to a mailing list? When I use the mailing list with my own e-mail address included, I see owner-[listname]@[domain]. Can I change this in something completely different, like [email protected]?

I would like to create a mailing list for a friend, but without any ties to my domain name...

Thanks,
Robert

I'm not sure but I believe that the DirectAdmin installation of Majordomo requires an address at a valid domain on your server.

I'm not sure if you can make up an arbitrary address, especially one that doesn't exist, but I do know that if the sending address (and from address) aren't valid, then you risk a lot of systems refusing the email and more importantly you risk being labelled as a spammer.

RFCs require that any sender be able to receive email.

I sure wouldn't use a nonexistent sender at gmail; that'll get you blacklisted rather quickly.

Thanks for your replies. I can't really find settings related to sender's name or anything like that. The Gmail-example was just to explain things, I was going to use the real sender's name and address. I just don't want my domain name to be linked to this particular goal.

Maybe someone can give me a hint where to look? Here's what I can change.

Direct Admin doesn't send a copy of the list-owner-info file when it creates a list; you can find a sample here.

Further majordomo information may be found in Majordomo documentation, found here (greatcircle.com). You may also find this list (greatcircle.com) useful.
