Problems with Mailing List

I used to have 3-4 Mailing lists that was working.

Now all of them dont work.
I didnt realise it until i setup a new mailing list today.

Sending to that mailing list didnt give any error.. no bounces etc.
But no one (including myself) received that email.

I checked my main account email address and say Mail Delivery Error.

The content in that email is as follows, please note that i changed my domain name to domain.com for privacy sake.

This is a MIME-encapsulated message

Hope someone can help me.
Would really appreciate it.. thanks!

no i havent..
dont see why this is happening all of a sudden.

Nothing was changed on the box.

Check exim.conf and make sure that the director for majordomo_aliases is intact.

Then, check the file /etc/virtual/<domain>/majordomo/list.aliases and make sure that you have an entry for "project-biz-out" and that the alias for that name resolves to a real account.

If all that looks right, I'd do some exim tracing and see why exim isn't resolving the alias and throwing an unknown user.

Did you ever get this fixed? I am having the same issue today. I created my first list but am getting a 550 unknown user when I send to it.

Phil

I have one account that can't use the mailing list. I can set up and use them on another account but any that gets setup on this one account doesn't get sent out the mail comes back when trying to send to the list.

Thank you for any help

It's hard to determine what the problem is based on what you posted. Usually there is more information between the 550 and the (in reply to RCPT TO command). That information tells you why it couldn't deliver the message.

Based on what I do see, the mailing list software sent the email correctly and the receiving MTA bounced it back to the list owner. Perhaps the user doesn't exist (typo).

well I have the same problem.

de exim rejectlog says:

I found the problem!

The direcory etc/virtual/domain.nl/majordomo has the permision 0700, change this to 0771 and it will work!

I don't know how yours got set to 700. All of ours are set to 711, which works as it should.

Nothing/no-one can enter a directory without the execute bit set.

I've merged two similar threads into one.

Jeff

I had the same problem ..unknown user.
chmod 0771 and now it works.
Question is why this happened?
I created another list on new domain and it worked fine permissions were created correctly.

I did udate exim while the firest list was built not sure why that would mess things up.

anyway just some info....hope someone figures out why this is happening.

Who was the owner of the majordomo directory? That could be why changing the permissions helped. Mine look like this:
Code:
drwxr-x--x 5 majordomo daemon 4096 Apr 11 14:06 majordomo

mine looks like this after the chmod
drwxrwx--x 5 majordomo daemon 4096 Apr 19 01:16 majordomo

Majordomo needs that first 7 (rwx), so the question would be "what was it like before the chmod?".

Jeff

It probably needs those other two "x" characters as in directories that means "enter into".

If they're not there nothing not owned by majordomo can read anything in the directory.

Jeff

I found this error on some servers as well. Not sure what causes it yet...probably something John needs to look at.

The setting to 700 (instead of 711) was probably caused by the restore (from user_backups) operation.

This was the case for all domains that I moved to a different server using the back-up/restore facility.

Note: the problem doesn't show if the catch-all mailbox is "On".

I can confirm I had exactly this problem on the latest version of DA.

I have however restored from backup on this server although I did create the mailing list shortly after this took place.

I chmodded to 711 and it instantly started working.
