How can I exclude Majordomo Archives in the DA Admin Backup and Restore?
I would like to back up only the mailing list configuration and subscriber email lists, without including the Majordomo archives.
How can this be configured?

In Admin Backup and Restore > Mailing Lists, the backup currently includes:
  • user.admin.{username}.tar.gz
  • backup/domain.com/email/majordomo/digests/{example}-digest
For instance, one customer has never purged their Majordomo archives, causing the backup size to grow to as much as 20 GB.

I suggest adding a “Mailing Lists Data” option to the Admin Backup and Restore feature. This would improve flexibility by allowing administrators to back up only essential mailing list data without the archives, resulting in more efficient and manageable backups.

DA Majordomo purge automatically?
I would like to ask for clarification: if I perform “Purge Archives” in Majordomo, will it delete emails that have already been delivered to subscribers’ mailboxes, or will those emails remain unaffected?

DirectAdmin currently support automatic Purge Folder Trash/Junk for Email Accounts?

Thank you., I love DA

Hello,

Emails already delivered in subscribers’ mailboxes will remain unaffected.

Hi @zEitEr,

Thank you for confirming that purging Majordomo archives does not affect emails that have already been delivered to users' inboxes.

I would appreciate your consideration and support for improving this feature request.

Current Issue

When Mailing Lists is enabled in DirectAdmin Backup Settings, DirectAdmin includes Majordomo Archives in the backup archive.

If the Majordomo archives have grown very large or have never been purged, they can significantly increase the size of DirectAdmin backups and greatly extend backup creation times.

Current Behavior

  1. DirectAdmin does not automatically purge Majordomo archives.
  2. DirectAdmin backups include Majordomo archives when Mailing Lists is selected, and there is currently no option to exclude them.
  3. Backup archives become unnecessarily large and backup operations take much longer when Majordomo archives contain a large amount of historical data.

Feature Request

Please consider splitting the current Mailing Lists backup option into separate settings, allowing administrators to back up mailing list configurations without including archive data when it is not needed.
  • Mailing List Accounts and Configuration
  • Mailing List Archive Data

Additional Suggestion Regarding Webmail Data

Webmail Data also includes items such as the Roundcube address book (contacts). Unlike regular email messages, this data cannot be reliably backed up using rsync or filesystem snapshots alone, as it is stored in the Roundcube MySQL database and must be exported separately during the backup process.

For this reason, I believe it would be beneficial to either:
  • Move Backup Webmail Data under Email Accounts, or
  • Add a separate Webmail Data option.

Reference

Majordomo archive data is typically stored in:
  • /etc/virtual/{domain}/majordomo/digests/{mailing-list-account-name}-digest
And is included in DirectAdmin backup archives such as:
  • user.admin.{username}.tar.gz > backup/{domain}/email/majordomo/digests/{mailing-list-account-name}-digest

Thank you for your consideration.
