User of mine has a 300-member mailing list that he just set to moderate, but can find no instruction on how to moderate it. The manual at (http://www.site-helper.com/email.html#majordomo) offers no help whatsoever on this topic.

I found a link in these forums that offered this help:

"When Majordomo requests your approval for something, it sends you a
message that includes a template of the approval message; if you concur,
you simply need to replace "PASSWORD" in the template with your
administration password, and send the template line back to Majordomo."

But it seems that DA uses non-standard templates because no where in the Approve: message is there a place for him to put the password at all, and I've viewed it on his computer at his business.

Since I can't find a straight-forward answer (one other post on here started with "well I finally figured out how to approve a post" but didn't mention how they did so), how does my client approve a moderated post? Does he just hit reply and type in his moderator password and majordomo does the rest? We'd experiment, but we do not want to spam 300+ people on the list with cryptic password messages.

Also, shouldn't all email sent FROM the moderator not be moderated and automatically sent to the list? Cause this ain't happening either.

I just created a new list separate from the one mentioned above and it's not working at all.

Whenever anyone on the list sends to it, moderated or not, I get:

"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

[email protected]

Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 10): 550"

You can find the majordomo list-owner-info file which everyone who manages a list is supposed to get (it's never been automated, which is why DA doesn't send it) here.

Forget about the reference to templates unless you want to log into a server using ssh; that stuff was really written for the old days when people managed their majordomo lists through shell access.

You can approve a text message by puting a line at the top of the message, followed by a blank line, and then send it (with all it's headers) back to the list; see the "Bounced Messages" section of list-owner-info.

However you may not be able to approve an html message as majordomo generally gets confused by the various parts.

I can't tell you anything about the message you're getting. First step would be to post a copy of the message (including the sender) to the list.

But it's probably going to take a login to figure out the problem. For that you'll need to contact DA support.

The main main problem we're having is that the moderator's emails are being moderated -- no one can post after further investigation, the moderater isn't even getting the emails to moderate any messages sent to the list. The sender is getting a BOUNCE (needs approved) message, but the moderator doesn't get the moderate message.

This client's pretty upset, I guess he said more than half of the subscribers have quit because he can't stop the spam because he has to put the list in unmoderated mode just for him to send anything to it.

Are the posts in html? Majordomo doesn't like html, and it's likely you won't be able to moderate html posts.

Otherwise, I still say someone's going to have to log in and do some testing.
