This is
not a How-To, so I've moved it to the
E-Mail forum.
There's some good information
here.
Is the new server running DA (you don't say but I'm presuming it is.
Plesk uses Maildir format.
Are you using Maildir format on the DA server, or are you sticking with the default mbox format?
If you're going with the Maildir format on DA then you can tar up the Maildir folders on the Plesk server and untar them as Maildir folders on the DA server, and make sure the permissions are as they should be.
If you're going with mbox on the DA server, then you'll have to take the contents of each Maildir
cur and
new directories, and cat them into one file, adding a line beginning with the word
From followed by a space at the end, to the top of each email. Then copy these files to the new server and isntall them manually as mbox folders.
It's really simple, but it sounds complex. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
And frankly most of us probably just keep webmail running on the old server for a while and have our users read their email at the old machine.
You can make sure new email goes to the new machine by setting up a site alias as for example, new.example.com, which also sets up email. Then you can just formward incoming email on the old server to (for example)
[email protected]. If you're going to do this you must make sure that new.example.com, as seen from the old server, points to the IP# of the new server.
