Multiple POP clients with mbox?

So over the past while everyone seems to check mail with their desktop computer and now with an iPad. So I see a lot of these 'pop lock busy' errors because I run qpopper with mbox mail boxes in /var/mail/username.

My question is would converting to Maildir stop these mailbox collisions? I'm running Linux.

Yes, Maildir allows simultaneous access and do not require locking.
