Not getting backups?

Hello there, and thanks for a great product. I am a novice computers in general, but spent the last two weeks or so teaching myself how to set up and admin a website. I am not going to go into a lot of detail or explain the situation leading up to my problem unless it is necessary, I am just going to get right into it and if I need to, I can expound on it later in the thread.

My problem/question: why am I not getting backups? I spent two days making a site, and requested five or so backups a day, backing up whenever I made a major change, and it would take less than five minutes to get the backup. Then I changed some things around, tried different forum software and switched back, and now, when I request a backup, it puts me in the queue and then nothing happens.

It has been over 12 hours and I still haven't heard anything. I tried three more times (sorry about that guys) and didn't get any response at all. I backed the site up using a 16gig flash drive, not sure if that will work or not but I don't know what else to do, and I don't really want to finish working on the site in case a change I make messes the site up and I need to restore.

There was a series of specific events that I performed, involving a lost SMF admin password and me messing around in smf_ database files, but I will not go into detail about that unless it may be relevant to my backup issues. Am I not getting backups because I asked for too many, or did I screw something up? If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

How did you try to create a backup?
Are you the server admin or a client?
Are you trying to create a backup of SMF or DirectAdmin?

I am trying to do a DirectAdmin backup. I think I am a client of theirs, using the directadmin server

by using the backup button on the DirectAdmin server, I assume it is backing up everything, including the SMF site on the server.

I hope I am making myself clear, as I said, I am new to all of this and somewhat in over my head (that is the way I like it, though)

I looked around in directadmin today and noticed that I am getting the backups, I am just not getting the emails that tell me the backup is complete. I guess I can live with that.

If the server is yours you can check the exim log to see why the email isn't getting to you. If you're a client of a webhosting company you'll need to ask them for help.

Jeff
