Password File Corrupted?

I've got an interesting problem. I suddenly can't get in to DirectAdmin, it says I've got the wrong password. I didn't change it, and when I access the server via ssh I can log in as admin with the correct password.

I contacted the techs at my host and they said the hard drive was failing. So they ported all the info over to a new drive, but I still have the same problem.

I'm guessing that some sort of DA password file must have gotten corrupted? Any thoughts?

Simultaneously, I have a (maybe) related problem in that I am unable to load any info via FTP. I can read files fine, but if I try to upload I get a 500 Read Only File System error... maybe something's corrupted there too?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

You can check /var/log/directadmin/error.log. But directadmin authenticates the same way as the system so I dont see how its corrupted.

Problem solved

The techs at my host solved the problem. They said the server was in a "read only state". I really don't know what that means, nor how it may have happened, but they've got it working now.:)

It means your hard drive could be going bad and as cheap as hard drives are now you should probably replace it. But maybe wait and see if it happens again. Have your techs do some hard drive diagnostics.
