Password not send in welcome email when resend

Due to a tip I got from Jeff.... i tried to give a user his password for DA which he had forgotten by resending the welcome email.

This does not work, we get this in the mail:
Password: * irretrievable *

Is this "working as designed" or is this a bug?

Passwords would never be retrievable. That would be a insecurity if they were saved somewhere.

I wondered already. I was completely lost for a minute. So you have to change the password, and then you can resend a welcome email at the same time?
Is that the correct way?

Yes if you did a password change and sent the welcome email it could read the password from the input form.
