pop emails

I have an unusual problem.

I am new to Da, and I have setup the following.

new reseller, then new packages, then new user and new domain

I have an email address at the new domain, and I can see five messages in squirrelmail. I can not pop the messages with my outlook client. I even tried a telnet to the IP on port 110 and no connection.

VM-pop3d is running, I tried stopping and starting it.

I tried changing in the client, the server settings to the IP address to eliminate possible DNS issues. Same problem. Error in outlook is

Task '[email protected] - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

DNS looks OK at DNS Stuff, and there is nothing I cna see in the mail.log.

Services show DA, exim, httpd, mysqld, named, proftpd, sshd, vm-pop3d and nothing else running.

Am I missing something simple?

If your pop server is running (and it looks as if it is) and you're email client is properly setup but can't connect to it, then either your email client is pointing to the wrong server, or it's pointing to the right server, and either your firewall or something else along the network path, is blocking access to port 110 on your server.

Thanks for thew reply. Finally got through to the hosting server tech support guys, and suggested that they had a firewall blocking my server. The first level guy assured me that they did not, but he was able to duplicate the problem by trying to telnet to the serrver on port 110, and he could not get there either.

Second level called back about 30 minutes latger, saying that they had removed the firewall rule and all is well.

Being a noob to Directr Admin, I was not sure if there was something specific I had to do in the configuration of the domain to make it work.
