An en-experienced kid got on my computer, while i was away, and tried a command he read in a forum (Chmod 755 $dir/*) . Can someone please post there / directory so i can replace the default permisions, or is there a command to do it?

Thanks

I do not believe there is a command that will automatically set file permissions since it would probably be virtually impossible to get everything correct or there would be the possibility of messing up customized permissions.

All of my / belongs to root:wheel
except for two quota files which belong to the operator group.

All I can say is that your lucky he didn't add a -R to that command ;)

Quick question though. Why did you leave the computer/server logged in as root?

I was here at my house, had putty open. He got on while i was in the crapper. I know now, never leave it open.

As far as i can tell, i got everything back. If push comes to shove, i have back-ups on 8 different boxes, so if a "chaotic virginia tornado with bricks flying out the side and cows flying around" problem comes, i can move accounts over, re-install/compile and move them back over.

Thank you
Matt
