Problem with DNS requests

I'm currently using DA as a DNS server for one of my domains that reside on a separate machine.

One of the problems I'm having is that the domain does not seem to be resolving correctly. I don't believe I have anything incorrect in my named.conf or my /var/named/domain.db file.

I'm a little lost that when I try to do a domain lookup it goes to the nameserver, but DA does not recognize it as an existing domain. All the records are in DA and i've checked /var/log/messages and it does load... I'm hoping that I can find some help with this, because it is baffling.

IP's for the name servers have been assigned and it worked briefly, then stopped for no apparent reason...

Any help is appreciated... Thank you... :)

Just wanted to add... I recently switched IP addresses and these include the name servers.

Do the name servers require reverse dns entries in order to be used properly?

Did you update the name server information with your registrar where the name servers were originally setup? (ie.. ns1.domain.com = 123.xxx.xxx.xxx IP Address) If the name server info was not updated back to the root servers, they will not respond correctly. You can also check http://www.dnsreport.com to see what they report back on the nameservers and domain.

Reverse IP DNS resoluiton should be configured per IP#, not per domain or per hostname or service name.

Or in plain english :) :

The IP#s used by your nameservers need reverse DNS, but unless the IP#s are only being used by your nameservers you should probably reverse them to your hostname rather than a specific domain-name or service name.
