hi

i'm going to get my hosting provider to add some reverse dns entries for my ip's. i've done a little reading on reverse dns but i'm a little confused. my question is this:

server hostname: myhost.somedomain.com
ip1 has various mail servers on it e.g. mail.somedomain1.com mail.someother.com etc
ip2 has various mail servers on it e.g. mail.somedomain2.com mail.someother2.com etc
etc etc

can i just have the reverse dns entries for each ip pointing to my server hostname if i have an A record for each ip in the server hostnames dns? or do i have to have them pointing at each mail.somedomain.com mail server? sorry in advance if i'm asking stupid questions!

thanks

roland

It will be your full qualified host domain name which answers. There is no problem, since all your MX have a FQDN hostname and a A DNS entry in each domain used.
Don't forget the SPF TXT entry in DNS

hi

thanks for your reply. so just to clarify i can have the reverse dns entries for each domain all pointing to my server hostname e.g. server.myhost.com rather than mail.somedomain.com?
