Recommended site builder?

This thread can be closed or deleted or archived. Why? I did my search through the DA website. This is one of the threads that I did research with from that search.

sitebuilder 2.0 from swsoft was bought out by Parallels and is no longer supported

sitezen.com no longer exists

TuCows no longer supports this.

Just doing my part to help clean up the forums and stop people from wasting their time :-)

stop trolling

I am not trolling. I am offering valid observations for the DA community. It is not that often I comment on anything and when I do I add it to my signature for others to benefit from. I have been a long time user here and have never caused a problem so please do not cause one now. If you don't like what I have to say you can easily block me.

I agree that the threads needed to be capped off. I'm leaving this one open as it's a logical thread on which to continue the discussion; the rest will be closed with a note to come to this thread.

So... Is there any sort of options today that people recommend?

- RVSiteBuilder mentioned above : DA Search of Support
- Plugin for Zyro Site Builder : Local Thread & http://zyro.com/
- WiseNav DirectAdmin Plugin : Local Thread & http://www.wisenav.com/
- Site.pro : http://site.pro/for-hostings-prices/
- kopage : http://www.kopage.com/ mentioned in thread below

Some talk of a project of nexxterra.com which seemed to have stalled, found in a sister thread in these forums.

I used HTML-Kit a long time ago. Since then I moved on to a very advanced ascii/hex/octal/EBCDIC editor for everything... anyhow it or something client side could actually be a nice alternative to online site-builder services, no?

Hobbyist, nerdy 'site builder' for those interested: my reccomendation

I used to have a few VANILLA sites which is written for REBOL. Both are quite fascinating to work with..

Any others?, other than site.pro, the rest are not much good _JMHO_
it has to be a 'hands free' system for clients, people that dont know what css, html, php, ftp, control panel and so on means,
cant have a setup that requires a good part of the day holding a clients hand, so unless there is one that you guys can recommend (other than the listed)?
this sort of project/feature has been wanted for a long time and each builder seemed to have too many quirks or too hard to operate for the end user

What do you know about Site.Pro?

Does it run on my server or theirs? Or on theirs?

It looks as if the answer is that with the Premium solution it runs on their servers, but with the Enterprise solution it runs on mine.

Which then begs the questions:

What if they go broke and I've got the Enterprise solution? If their licensing server disappears from the 'net will my clients' sites stop working?

What happens if I decide to stop using their solution and stop paying? Again, will my clients' sites stop working?

I'm possibly interested in the Enterprise solution, pending satisfactory tests and a satisfactory reply to these quesitons.

And other quesitons:

How sticky is it? Does it create code which the user can then move to a different provider, or must the user stay with me?

Hafe you been in touch with them? Do you have any of these answers?

Jeff

none :( no answers but isnt that the worry for any paid license product?
I did trythe builder a little , looked like simple enough to operate for the end user,
I too would much rather have it in house but what to do?
Im sure their answer is they wont go under but what else would they say?
I saw a backup feature but not sure if it would run, after the fact?
seems there isnt any easy way to contact them?
from Lithuania
I did find one email so Ill make contact but maybe this isnt a good choice after all

@NoBaloney2
yes and no reply :(
I cant seem to find a 'decent' website builder, dont need one that requires a huge learning process for me so I can hold the clients hand while creating their site.
Im beginning to think, there isnt any such application, for years many have tried and many have died (project wise)
once I had a great little drag and drop cart I wanted to use but they disappeared and never found a decent replacement for that,
not that Im looking all that hard for one now

Many small projects never gain traction and disappear when founders lose interest. Have you tried RVSiteBuilder (rvsitebuilder.com)?

Jeff

I checked out RVSiteBuilder
not sure if the script is housed on their system or the server?

Not Impressed, seems too hard for the average user to use
the way it seemed to work is confusing and clunky
(unless I was doing something wrong)
which brings me back to the 1st problem
The End User, a website builder has to be a simple as possible for the type of client that would actually use one
otherwise a bit more experienced user will use one of the PC based applications
so not for me lol
Ill go on looking
