Hi All,

I have been searching the forum for over 2 days now found several simulair problems and fixes but none of them works for us.

Or problem is that with one customer that uses a phpmailler sometime the e-mail got sended to there mail box but the most do not, in exim log i find rejected RCPT <[email protected]> authentication required.

I have allready check exim conf for local domain relay allow etc this is all ok
Als did passwd change from command line and then true direct admin web interface, and check the owner ship in /etc/virtual all is ok.

I also found somewhere in a log this message: 535 Incorrect authentication data but we are sure the data should be ok

Any one have an idea where a bit lost on this one

Hi,
are you able to verify the username id and password of the email is correctly?

Yes in a e-mail client like outlook its no problem only from php we have this problem, it used to work site runs allready about 2 years on this server.

So, use 587.

Regards

This seems to be working but we want to know why 25 aint working anymore it used to work for about 2 years.

We have an idea on what happend but we dont know how and why.
Some times customers complain thay suddenly they can't sent mail with there client for example MS outlook the setting
My server requires authentication
has to be turned on and then it works again.
This happens with no reason, so i suspect that this happend with the mail box that is be used with the contact form of the customer.

So we hope someone knows an awnser to this

That happend to me aswell in the past, never understood why.

I was wondering on an exim (and exim.conf update)... but in my case wasnt it.

The auth is necessary and have to be done on 587 (dont remember the rfc name but now everyone is passing to port 587).

Someone with more knowledge on this would probably reply.

Best regards

Ok but why is the autentication suddenly needed after it wasn't needed before.
Had same problem with one of or own accounts this morning on my laptop.

Hope someone will

Well is needed cause in the past (on port 25) your server was an open relay.

Thats mean that anyone was able to connect to it (cause wasnt needed any auth) and send email wherever...

That situation was a risk and a very fast way to go in worldwide spam-list (rbl's).

Regards
