Reseller IP

Hello,

I have a question about resellers.

Is it possible to sign resellers on the same IP address. Because it’s weird to bye a IP for each reseller. I know it works but I don’t know how.

On the moment:
1 server IP
1 Shared IP
1 FREE IP

Who can help me how to assign more resellers on the FREE ip.

Greetz,

Correct me if I got it wrong... For resellers, a shared IP is actually a unqiue IP owned by the reseller, implying that only the reseller account and its user accounts use that IP. (?)

If so, how does a security certificate figure into it, aside from adding another IP? Is a reseller's shared IP bound to the reseller's domain... like a server setup in miniature?

A shared IP can be shared by the box or assigned to reseller and shared by the reseller.

it's not bound to any particular domain.

Ok... So if the reseller has a cert he needs to own the ip. And if the reseller doesn't want to share that ip it should be assigned. So long as the reseller package allows hosting users on the server's ip, one ip can go a long way.

Now it makes more sense to me why the ip options that require selection during reseller creation are best not defined in the package with other ip options. It helps to look at DA's ip setup as a two-step process.

Question, if a reseller has an assigned IP and they have a cert for it can they still allow their users to use that IP? Or do they need to have two IPs one for them for their cert and one for their clients?

You ask a good question.

I believe they should be restricted, as is everyone else, to using a dedicated IP# for a cert. And that the dedicated cert cannot be used by anyone else.

But I'm not taking the time to look.

We generally give resellers their own IP# if the need a cert, and then they can use that as a shared cert, or we can give them additional IP#s if their customers need them.

Jeff

I would think they are restricted if it has a cert bound to it but I was not sure how DA handles that. I think I will point the DA guys to this post and see if we can get an answer.

Hello,

An "owned" IP cannot be shared with other users.

Only a shared IP can be shared with multiple Users, and shared IPs all use the single "Shared Server Certificate".

Related to the first question on the thread, by default only the server IP can be shared among multiple Resellers. However, if you want to give multiple Resellers a non-server IP to share, the IP must first be given to one Reseller, set to "shared", and then manually added to any other Reseller's data/users/reseller/ip.list file to grant them access. But this isn't official and fights over who owns it for the "nameservers" may ensue ;)

John,

Nameservers don't really care about the IP#s you use, so I'm a bit confused. Can you explain what could happen?

Thanks.

Jeff

Hello,

Just referring to the space in the IP entry used for the nameserver label (just the costmetic bit). There is only room for 1 NS's in the space, thus some Reseller's might not like seeing someone elses nameservers, not a big deal ;)

I trying to figure this out and this post was as close as I could find to my question.

I had 2 nic with 2 different ips but on the same segment and was told that could be problematic so now I have 1 ip on the primary nic and 1 alias ip on the primary nic.

I would like to be able to assign ips to different resellers/users bases on wether they are free or paid accounts.

The problem is the main reseller has a mix of half and half out of 25 domains so if I read this thread right the front end allows you to do it per reseller but if u want to go down to the user level you have to manual edit some files.. which is fine.

Can someone help me understand how and which files I would need to edit to control what ip is used wether its a reseller or a user and would this method be supported.

Thanks
