I have two unmanaged VPS running on CentOS 5.3 with DA installed as the CP (and a dedi for which I purchased a full-license from DA) and have had trouble properly installing a self-cert for the secure, SSL login. After installing, I get thefollowing server error when I attempt to login to either VPS:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to 123.456.78.9:2222.
SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.
(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

* Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.
The IP addresses are 203.98.84.224 and 213.163.90.9. (I'm loathe to provide these because it's like giving your phone number in a chat room, IMO.)
Would someone kindly tell me how I can fix this since, as one of my VPS providers (the considerably more expensive of the two) has made clear that I'm on my own?
Hi,
Does your certificate include a CA Root Certificate? If so did you install that as well? If you are unsure please post the brand and name of certificate you purchased. For example if you purchased a Geotrust RapidSSL certificate this would need a CA Root Certificate installed along with the regular certificate.

Thanks, Jason, for taking the time to respond to this thread. I did use that guide but, when I got back to DA and it looked as if it hadn't worked, I created another cert at the user level on the CP. (My servers are for my own use, only, so there are no other authorized users.)
That may be the problem in addition to my attempting to create the cert for a hostname "secure.myserver.com" rather than "www.myserver.com". However, I can't find any error logs that will tell me how I may have jacked things up.
What commands can I run to see where I went wrong? I having this problem on both my unmanaged VPS (both of which have DA licenses owned by the server hosts) and I'd like to get it resolved.
Since when? We've been offering our own co-branded GeoTrust RapidSSL Certificates for some time now, and we've never needed a CA Root Certificate. Do they use a different root when you buy direct from them?

No, thank you. I'm not interested in providing my domain name information for a variety of reasons. All I requested was specific commands I could run and post the output of to determine what may be the problem. That doesn't require domain name information or IP addresses.
In any event, I've decided DA doesn't work for me for a whole host of reasons, not the least of which is this SSL issue and I'm removing it from all three servers and installing control panel software that gives ME control--over my DNS, configuration, logs and whatever else I want to install on the servers. I went to VPS and a private dedi installed with open source software so I could have more control. Installing proprietary software has entirely counteracted that plan.
So, I'm going to fix my SSL issue by uninstalling DA.
