Setting hostname and DNS

So I bought a VPS with DA, it comes with provider's hostname and nameservers, what would be the process to use my own domain name for both?

- I create a DNS Zone like this

server.mydomain.com
VPS main IP
ns1.mydomain.com
ns2.mydomain.com

- I delegate the domain using the created NS

Then I replace provider settings with my own one.

Would that work?
