Hi,
Pretty new to all this and have searched the forum and read the relevant help docs (which are a little dated in some cases) I am trying to add IPv6 support to my server.

I have enabled ipv6 in my directadmin.conf added an ipv6 address to the server which has the status shared and is assigned to my reseller account (I have full admin access) but that is as far as I can get.

When I add a new domain no ipv6 addresses are added to DNS
No ipv6 connectivity to Apache

One doc refers to adding an additional IP to a user but I only see an option to 'change ip' to the ipv6 my ipv4 address shows as shared between 5 users but the ipv6 address is showing shared 0

Sorry if this is basic stuff but some pointers and guidance would really be appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, I have managed to do all that, I am now at the 'Web server is not responding' on ipv6 I will keep looking into it but I cannot seem to get Apache to serve over ipv6.

Should I be seeing the ipv6 address in my user domains httpd.conf files?

I found that and have done so, my ipv6 ips are all now showing in the .conf files so am nearly there but still don't seem to be able to connect, thanks for the pointers though. I will keep at it :)

Update, I have enabled ipv6 in directadmin.conf and have assigned/linked ipv6 as documented but the ipv6 address is not showing in the httpd.conf file which means Apache is not listening on an ipv6 address, despite removing and re-adding the ipv6 address is definitely not populating as it should, anything I am missing/could try?

Update2 I manually entered the ipv6 address into the httpd.conf files and got it to work but still perplexed as to why DA isn't writing the conf files as it should?

I used the mythic beasts to check...

I understand that something isn't right as the ipv6 addresses are NOT being added automatically I entered them manually and it worked, the issue is why are the ipv6 domain entries not being created/updated when I have added/linked the ipv6 ip's via the DA panel??

Am wondering if setting the ipv6=1 in the directadmin.conf has to be last, I am stumped really can figure out what is going on.

I am seeing some strange behaviours, I have x2 DA installs that is for all intended purposes identical both are displaying different 'quirks' for want of a better word.

On 1 server if I add a new user the DNS is populating with an ipv6 IP that I REMOVED the only place this IP is still 'visible' is on my DNS records which still have not propagated, so does DA populate the ipv6 address from the listed nameservers for a domain rather than using some 'local' mechanism?

On 2nd server the ipv6 is not populating at all no matter what I have tried, eg adding the ip as shared and linking them.

On both servers everywhere I look eg /var/named and user/local/directadmin the correct ips are shown

Baffled & confused, my current thought is to simply use ipv4 until DA ipv6 support is clarified and working as I expect it should

I have tried to get ipv6 working on 3 installs now and have had no luck getting it to work, what am I missing:

1 ipv6 setup and configured on the network device
2 ipv6 enabled in DA
3 ipv6 IP set to shared/assigned to user
4 ipv6 IP set to link

5 ADD THE IPv6 to the domain

This situation is one where there is no pint in re-inventing the wheel, I had to do a fair bit of digging to try and get IPv6 to work with DirectAdmin and it’s easier for me to point you to a comprehensive article that has already been completed over at VPSBasics for you to read.

It covers all you need to know. So head to here
