Hello,

I am a server admin and I am considering the purchase of DirectAdmin. I was just wondering how the mail server used with DirectAdmin handles SMTP. Can you set usernames and passwords so that not just anybody can relay mail through the server? I would like to filter by username and password and not IP addresses that way my mail users can roam to different computers and still be authenticated to send mail. I do not want to leave my mail server wide open to spam relaying. If it is possible, how easy is it to set up?

Louie

By default open relay is disabled, you can setup email accounts (username/pass) from within the control panel.

Ok, thank you. Does this mean that the username and password set up for the account will be used for POP3/IMAP access and SMTP access? Also, what is the name of the e-mail server that DirectAdmin uses?

Yes.

DirectAdmin uses Exim.
