I am using DA personal edition and I have what may seem like a stupid question.

When I login in to the server via SSH to install Softaculous should I login as root or using my admin login?

I ask because in the past I have encountered some permission / ownership issues when doing stuff as root.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

I don't think you can login as admin via SSH but anyway, Softaculous should be installed as root as most of server applications.

You can encounter permission issues when doing some other things as root, so it's good to check what and what not to do as root.
But Softaculous is installed as root.

That is also stated on their installation page:
SSH to your server and just execute the following commands as root (3 commands).

Thanks for the reply. I can login either way as admin or root using different passwords.

I read that page before I posted. Based on other things I have messed up I thought it best to ask. I thought this the best palce to ask. :)

Softaculous needs to be installed by a root user. And if you're using CSF Firewall, dont forget to whitelist Softaculous server IPs for flawless updates and installs ;)

Good luck!

Yeah no problem, but root is root and admin is admin, as you said, different accounts, different passwords.
No problem asking here, better asked and be safe, then not asked and get things messed up. ;)
We don't mind you asking.

As my Softaculous wasnt anymore automatically updating, I checked the to be whitelisted IPs from the different softaculous docs (Softaculous, Sitepad, Backuply). This is what i found out:
