Hi guys,

I have a customer that is complaining that he sometimes doesn't receive e-mails. Off course I already told him to check his Spambox, see if the sender has received a bounce message etc.

Today a received another email, reporting there was another email he hadn't received. The e-mail was sent last monday, so there should still be logs available about this date.

Now my question is, how to I start investigating this? I want to find out whether the email:

1) Ever reached my webserver (or if the problem was with sending the message)

2) In case it has reached the webserver, if it has been marked as SPAM or not

3) If the email is still floating around somewhere or if maybe the client downloaded the message and deleted it by accident or something.

Any tips on how to investigate such things?

Thanks in advance.

Michiel

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I've located the specific email in the mainlog. The email was send to two recipients. The one in the CC tells me he hasn't received the email. The other one has. See the output of the mainlog below. I've changed the email addresses for privacy reasons to:

- [email protected]
- [email protected] (this address was in the CC asd hasn't received the email)
- [email protected] has received the email

Both recipient and non-recipient are email addresses of the same domain that is hosted on my server.

I don't see anything weird in it. Also the paniclog and rejectlog don't show anything.

Any ideas based on this output?

Thanks. Michiel

According to your logs, both of these messages were delivered on your server. Check their mail stores and also the Exim queue.
